Art for the children

By buying works from well-known 20th century artists, you can support children: the profit from these sales is devoted in full to the projects run by the Terre des hommes Foundation.

It all started in 1972, with a generous gesture of Pablo Picasso’s. “Jean Planque, my brother”, recalls Claudine Planque, herself the owner of an art gallery in Lausanne, “had got from Picasso the undertaking that he would sign some hundred posters released for an exhibition of contemporary paintings in Lausanne”. All posters were sold to benefit Terre des hommes. Careful accounting made it possible to inform Pablo Picasso of the profits resulting from these sales, and of the use to which the money would be put. The artist was absolutely delighted.

At the time nobody could have guessed that this gesture would form the basis of a collection of unique prints, inspired by the work of Terre des hommes. Encouraged by this experience, Claudine Planque contacted the great artists of the twentieth century: Marc Chagall, Joan Miro, Max Ernst, Bram van Velde, Jean Messagier, Camille Bryen, Jean-Michel Folon and Antoni Clavé. Not one of them hesitated to lend his talent and fame to aid children in distress.
