Orange Sale Order now!

50 years ago, “Terre des hommes needed CHF 5,000.- to bring help to children. I suggested selling oranges in the street. We were only about thirty friends, but we managed to collect double that amount. The Tdh Council was enthusiastic and encouraged us to extend our sales the next time. Edmond Kaiser also felt that the orange was a symbol of health for the youngsters.”Told by Claudine Planque, who initiated the first sale of oranges in Lausanne in 1961.

The orange, fruit of the sun and a synonym for health, is the vitamin-ripe symbol of solidarity chosen by Tdh for the past 50 years! In sales on the street, passers-by donate a minimum of CHF 2.- for an orange, a first step in helping a child to get better. All the takings go into our health programmes. This facilitates the access to basic health care for families and offers specialised medical treatment to children either in their own countries or, if they cannot be treated there, in Switzerland.

We are looking for reinforcements for our 50th sale of oranges!

More than 1,500 volunteers saw to the smooth operation of this action in 2011. And there should be more in 2012!

Every donation is of use!

In 2011, more than 330,000 oranges were sold. This year, help us to keep up the fight for children’s health!

• With CHF 6.- we can fill two tanks with drinking water in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

• With CHF 10.- we can give five medical consultations in Senegal

• With CHF 20.- we can save the life of a child suffering from acute malnutrition who needs about two weeks in hospital in Guinea

Our oranges, supplied by COOP, are produced in the Valencia region of Spain according to strict standards of respect for the environment and guaranteeing a responsible approach to the heath and safety of the workers.

Supportive companies

Many companies also show great interest in supporting us by offering oranges to their employees or customers. In 2011, nearly 1000 companies bought boxes of oranges.
