World Food Day

The U.N. declared October 16th as world food day. The day reminds us of the one billion people suffering of hunger. The most vulnerable ones are children in the poorest countries of the world. More than eleven million children die for reasons related to malnutrition, insufficient hygiene and unclean drinking water. On the occasion of world food day, Terre des hommes is organising an initiative of solidarity together with restaurants. This program is taking place in the German-speaking part of Switzerland for the 18th time. Those who take part agree to donate their day’s takings to the health projects run by Tdh in 16 countries of intervention. In 2012, thanks to round about 470 participating restaurants, our partners and to all the people who ate out that day, over SFr. 200,000.- were collected to benefit children’s health care!

Every year plenty of gastronomes help children in poverty

FotoUrsMesserli.jpg“In our restaurant we offer sustainably produced and ethically justifiable food – that is our credo. It includes the consciousness that many people do not have anything to eat, not to mention the quality and variety of food we have here. That’s why we support the campaign on the occasion of world food day!” Urs Messerli, Owner mille sens groupe, Markthalle Bern
