A violin at the Customs

27 Apr 2010 VariousSwitzerland

On Saturday, 24th April, the prestigious violin of Patricia Kopatchinskaja, an ambassador for Tdh, was confiscated at Zurich airport. On her way from Rotterdam, this world-famous violinist was stopped and interrogated, and her violin taken away against a surety of CHF 400,000. Made by Guarnerius del Gesù in 1741, this instrument is valued at 4.5 million Euro and is generously on loan to the violinist from the Austrian National Bank. We trust Patricia Kopatchinskaja will get her violin back in time to enchant her public this summer at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, where Tdh is the humanitarian partner.
