Four health centres to help Kenyans suffering from hunger

In the Lagdera district in eastern Kenya, Terre des hommes supports four health centres with technical, logistic and financial aid. Medical equipment, services and therapeutic food supplied by Tdh and the SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation) will be given to 8,000 children and 1,400 mothers racked by hunger.
The health centre employees work under the Ministry of Health, with which Tdh is extending its collaboration to cope with the effects of the drought. By the beginning of next year, the SDC should be improving the supply of water to the arid region of Lagdera, as well as carrying out measures for sanitation. Tdh intends to set up a protection network to benefit 8,000 neglected, exploited or abused children in the same area.
Nearer to the Somali frontier, in the refugee camps of Dadaab, Tdh is gradually bringing help to 17,000 girls and boys with individual monitoring included in community management. Host families will welcome children who have become separated or are non-accompanied. Activities proposed to these host families will generate some income to assist their looking after the children. Basic training courses will prepare the young adolescents for jobs. Community centres will help with the acquisition of competencies for communal life in a humanitarian crisis situation.
The worrying security situation in Kenya is being closely followed by the teams, and any necessary measures will be implemented if need be.
