This intervention will greatly improve the quality of the care given to mothers and their children. A total of 262’000 people should benefit from this project.

The majority of Guinean health structures do not fulfil the minimum standards required by the WHO. In fact, “correct waste handling, good protection for food and utensils, a supply of clean drinking water as well as a system for draining used water, are essential measures in the fight against the presence of carriers”, according to the WHO.

For a 30-month period, an initial seven centres will benefit from Tdh’s aid. This project is a part of the Consortium between Tdh and the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC) and is welcomed and encouraged by the partners of the delegation, members of the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene (Health Department of Conakry, Community Departments of Ratoma and Dixinn, and the National Department of Public Hygiene). The choice of the seven centres will be made in coordination with the authorities concerned and will take into account the motivation expressed by the heads of the health centres: this task, involving a change of attitude, will in fact be borne by the main people responsible.
