FatimetouMbodj.jpg Fatimetou M’Bodj, a beneficiary of ours looked after by our teams when she was still a small child, took part in this year’s Paralympic Games in London. And to her great pleasure and our pride, Fatimetou not only took part, she reached the finals of the athletics competition in javelin throwing. Achieving 18th position, Fatimetou can today be really proud of having been the first athlete to represent her country in such an important competition, and of having been able to show those children who cannot get the benefit of such treatment in their own countries that it’s always possible to be the best.

Fatimetou suffered from birth from a malformation of her leg. Cared for and equipped by Terre des hommes Spain, she was able to walk correctly at 11, the age when she decided to start athletics. Tdh looks after children whose parents do not have the financial means to help them and/or who cannot be treated in their own countries, in the framework of its project “Voyage towards life”. Each year more than 200 youngsters can in this way go home to their families – cured.
