28 Apr 2010 Juvenile justicePeru

At its 18th international congress, the International Association of Youth and Family Judges and Magistrates (IAYFJM) awarded its Veillard-Cybulski prize to Tdh’s project for the protection of minors in conflict with the law, established in Peru. On the seven nominated projects, the jury was unanimous: “Of all the submissions, the most complete, in-depth and effective, and which fulfils our innovative aspirations, is the one entitled: Experiences in establishing Restorative Juvenile Justice in Peru, by the Terre des hommes Foundation – child relief, Lausanne. Their presentation is appreciated not only for the length and perseverance of the work, but also for its impact at a governmental level. Furthermore, it is important to take into account the projection of the experience at the first World Conference on Restorative Juvenile Justice, held in Lima in November 2009, as well as in publications including the specialist journal Justice for growth.”

For Jean Schmitz, Tdh delegate in Peru: “This award is not the result of a successful project but rather an acknowledgement and a motivation to continue and ever improve our actions for the wellbeing of children and the communities in which they live.”
