15 Jan 2009 Humanitarian crisesSri Lanka

With the aim of treating children’s fear of the water since the tsunami, “Swim Lanka”, Terre des hommes’ project partner, has developed psychosocial and games activities in the past 18 months. With the opening of pools in Batticaloa and Ampara districts, SwimLanka is now present in 15 locations. For the inauguration of the new pools, 20 coaches were selected. They have started training courses in psychosocial issues, on child protection policy, and in first aid. Up to now, Swim Lanka has reached over 14,000 children from eight of the ten tsunami-affected coastal districts.

SwimLanka has put up a website to continuously report about this new psychosocial project.
