Tdh Magazine - Emergency help in Haiti
8 Mar 2010 Humanitarian crisesHaiti, SwitzerlandIn the March edition of the Magazine, the Terre des hommes (Tdh) team in Haiti tells about the conditions of work and the emergency aid which has been overwhelming since the earthquake. On the spot for the past 20 years, Tdh set up its largest emergency operation to bring aid to stricken families in the south and west of the country. With a budget of over five million Swiss francs, Tdh could help 50,000 people, 30,000 of them children.
After the earthquake there were around 48,000 lost children, alone in a chaotic universe. These children are exposed to the threat of illegal adoption – or equally, of some type of trafficking. With the advantage of long experience in this field, Tdh has denounced the risks of adoption in such an emergency situation.
Terre des hommes will be celebrating 50 years of child relief with the motto “50 years’ commitment – let’s carry on!”, and this issue presents a supplement in the form of a poster showing children in Burundi, India and Moldova.
