Terre des hommes launches its 50th sale of oranges!
1 Mar 2012 Specialised care, Health and nutrition, Water,...Switzerland| Together with the Swiss Comedy Club, with Manuella Maury acting as patron and in the company of numerous celebrities, the 50th edition of the Terre des hommes sale of oranges will take place on 9 and 10 March 2012. Around one thousand businesses and an equal number of volunteers are staging this event to promote children’s health. Join their efforts all over Switzerland! |
Last year, more than 320,000 oranges have been sold on the streets of Switzerland. This year’s 50th edition will raise the bar even higher: The comedians from the Swiss Comedy Club together with Manuella Maury, patron of the event, are setting off on a “vitamin marathon” and will be making stops in five locations in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. On Friday, 9 March, they will inject a shot of humour into the Manor of Marin (NE) starting at 9 a.m., Avry Centre d’Avry-sur-Matran (FR) at 11 a.m., Montagny-Centre de Montagny-près-Yverdon (VD) at 1 p.m. and St-François in Lausanne at 3 p.m., and they will also present oranges in a symbolic gesture to young patients at the Maison de Terre des hommes in Massongex at 5 p.m.
More than 1,000 businesses will be selling or distributing oranges to their clients and/or employees. 1,500 volunteers will be selling the same delicious oranges from Valencia, Spain, at more than 200 well-frequented locations throughout the country and a large stand will also be set up at St. François square.
| Are you unable to make it to one of the stands and purchase oranges in person or would you like to become even more involved without having to spend money? If so, then why don’t you share virtual oranges with your friends? Every time someone clicks and shares an orange, our partner, COOP, will donate 10 Swiss centimes directly to health projects run by Terre des hommes. The objective is to share 100,000 oranges – so we really need your help! You can find all sorts of helpful information about how to get involved in the video opposite. |
All of the proceeds of this campaign are transferred directly to health projects run by Terre des hommes (click here if you want to see where your money is going!). The fight against malnutrition, follow-up care for expectant mothers, improved access to water, sanitation and treatment and operations for children in the university hospitals in Lausanne, Geneva and Bern are our objectives, and 700,000 children and their families in 16 countries are currently benefiting from the aid provided by Tdh. A shining example of this is Faguèye Mbaye, who was operated on in 1984 thanks to a Tdh programme, and now works on behalf of Senegalese children who are in need of specialised treatment.
Swiss celebrities, including Manuella Maury, the patron of the 50th, Jean-Marc Richard, Alexandre Jollien, Alain Morisod, Marie Clapasson, and the comedians from the Swiss Comedy Club will also be waiting to meet you at several locations in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
