Health intervention in Haiti

Terre des hommes (Tdh) leads a project to fight against child malnutrition in Haiti, where two million people are affected by food insecurity.

The insufficient national food production cannot respond to the needs of Haitian people because of dependence on imports. In the South department of the Island, Terre des hommes gives a lot of training and supports to parents to teach them how to avoid child malnutrition. “But now this is not enough. Production must be increased by using local resources”, explains Atila, former Tdh coordinator, today agronomist for CESVI, an Italian NGO partner of Tdh, specialised in food security. With a multiple approach in the fields of mother and child health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, the project aims at improving the food situation for children from 0 to 5 years, and pregnant and nursing mothers. Tdh and CESVI will work in 11 rural localities and 24 areas of Cayes.
