Laila, Tdh Beneficiary in Al Riyad Camp for Internally Displaced Persons
My name is Laila, I am 10 years old, and I am from a village 10 miles away from Al-Geneina in West Darfur. I was born and was growing up in my village before the conflicts. I have been displaced before 3 years when I was 7 years old.I come from a big family: my father was married with 3 wives and we were 23 children of 3 mothers.
My father was a farmer and we used to have a big land for agriculture; my mother and step mothers used to help my father in cultivating our land. Our family resources came from agriculture, our life was not that easy in my village. People used to work very hard to answer to basic needs of life; but our life was also very simple in spite of all difficulties and we were living very happily. I remember my days in my village…
During the conflict, my father, my mother and my brothers were killed, and our area also was burned, our animals were stolen by fighters.
I tried to follow some women on the road to El Geneina at night, we reached Al Geneina town after 8 hours walking by foot; and now I am in Riyad Camp, living with some relatives and we receive services from different organizations.
I feel secure in the camp, but some times the security situation in the camp is not stable because I can hear gun shooting, and at that time I feel not well and insecure: it reminds me of the days of torture in our village. And now I spend my time in the children’s centre during the day and this is a place where I found some friends and I play with them. It makes me feel that I have sisters and brothers. But till now I didn’t receive any education because no one is sponsoring my willingness or some of my rights…I am so sad for this but at the same time I can not blame any one: some times I convince my self that this is my destiny.
