Unjustly imprisoned for 10 years and finally reunited with her daughter

A mother who was imprisoned unjustly for ten years in a Burmese labour camp and released under a government amnesty in 2011, has been reunited with her 10-year old daughter. Her daughter was born in jail and then raised in a series of state social welfare institutions from the age of three, after which the pair never met.

Now the mother is about to start a professional tailoring course in Yangon run by WelthungerHilfe and will be sponsored and supported by the the Tdh social work team. One team member has opened her family home to the mother until such time as she can obtain the necessary identity papers that will enable her to re-establish a more independent life and create a new home for herself and her daughter. According to Rob Millman, Tdh delegate in Myanmar, “This a brief moment of indescribable joy and a quiet source of motivation and inspiration for Tdh’s work of reuniting separated children with their families”.
