At Terre des hommes, one of our priorities is to ensure that children and their mothers benefit from proper healthcare. As a result, we have launched a number of innovative projects in this field. They reflect our broader mission to improve access to medical care, water and sanitation in the most underprivileged communities worldwide.

Fields of intervention

Mother and child health

Healthy mothers are much more likely to have healthy children. We provide healthcare and advice to mothers during pregnancy and childbirth. Our children’s health programmes focus on the all-important first three years of a child’s life.

Water and hygiene

Lack of access to clean water and basic sanitation is one of the leading causes of death among children in the world. Improving sanitary conditions is therefore a vital part of our mother and child health projects and our work in humanitarian emergency situations.

Specialised care

Terre des hommes (Tdh) arranges for disadvantaged children, particularly children suffering from heart defects, to be transferred to Europe for medical treatment or surgery. We also provide care for children in their own country and training for local doctors.
