Lavilé, 15 years old,
a boy released from a Malian prison

"Tdh teaches us to look for solutions to our problems."

Overcrowding in prisons and limited access to medical care pose a threat to the health of imprisoned children in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Terre des hommes is active in many prisons around the world and was therefore quickly able to support the criminal justice authorities in introducing preventive hygiene measures.

In Mali, our staff acted very quickly to obtain the release of children and their reintegration into their families. During the reintegration process, Tdh works with the young people and their families to develop a life project. 15-year-old Lavilé was released from a detention centre in Mali. He explains:

”At the detention centre we heard about the coronavirus on TV. Despite the danger of infection, there were visits every day, so I was afraid.

Since my release I feel better. The Tdh events I have taken part in help me to distinguish between good and evil and to understand my mistakes. Tdh has taught us to seek solutions to our problems.

Now I would like to contribute to the financial support of my family. I know that I can make my parents happy if I work hard.”
