Handwashing Day: “Our Hands, Our Future!”

On October 15, Terre des hommes organises educational activities to increase awareness about the importance of handwashing with soap and promote good practices in 154 communities across 11 countries. Over 8000 children and 4000 adults will participate in learning activities such as games, painting contests, constructing handwashing stations and handwashing demonstrations.

In 2016, our specialists gave access to clean drinking water to 330,000 people in schools, communities and health centres in order to reduce the risk of water and hygiene related illnesses. We also shared good practices in the fields of hygiene, vaccinations and emergency care with communities. Our awareness-raising activities targeted almost 800,000 people last year, mainly in Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Benin, Guinea, Mali and Mauritania.
