Burundi : reintegration instead of prison
We advocate a more child-friendly treatment of juvenile offenders in Burundi so that they can learn to take responsibility for their offences. We organise sports- and theatre-based activities in Bujumbura prison; these activities are designed to prevent violence. Furthermore, psychosocial activities in the rehabilitation centre in Rumonge are helping 32 minors to reintegrate themselves in society.
In order to improve judicial processes for juveniles and to raise awareness of the need for a juvenile justice system that enables young lives to be repaired, we are also in touch with the local judicial authorities.
